Townhouse dreamhouse

The first hour of today’s Weekday on KUOW was about Seattle’s architectural design review process. This reminded me of my recent trip to the east coast — specifically, Lancaster PA — and how I fell in love with the thousands of rowhouses that line nearly every street. Are any of the newer developments on Capitol Hill following this type of model?

Shared wall space!

The only development I’ve seen look similarly attractive are a group of 24 townhomes just north of Gasworks park. What lets this happen is that the same developer bought and developed a large chunk of land with a plan in mind. I don’t think you’ll get the same effect with smaller townhome clusters, especially 3-packs. (One large house in front, a duplex in the rear.)
