Nice lady, rough life

The sweet woman (former teacher, now disabled) selling the street sheet most days in front of Walgreen’s on 15th said she was mugged last week at 14th and Olive, on a warm weekday evening, getting beat up a bit and losing $85. She doesn’t seem to b.s. about anything, so I trust her. She went to the cops and her caseworker, so the city came and cleared out a brushy area where she was assaulted. My point? Maybe it’s time to slip her a fiver, or at least tell her you read this so she knows people look out for her. (I’m sorry I don’t remember her name, but there was an article about her in the paper she sells and her daughter once told me about her mom’s 20-plus years as a public school teacher before she developed severe medical problems.)
