Tree thieves striking Capitol Hill?

New member to the blog here but life time Capitol Hill Resident (born and raised on 15th!). We planted a dwarf Japanese black pine in our front yard on Sunday on Thomas st. between 14th & Malden. It was stolen last night  (Tuesday night) between the hours of 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Just wondering if anyone has noticed suspicious activity or a new  4 foot tall beautiful pine tree in their neighborhood today?  We realize there is not much we can do and feel we will need to chain our plants to the house from now on but just wanted to post this to see if anyone may have seen anything…  Still love the hill but feel very disappointed and discouraged today.

I don’t know the exact day the theft occurred, but over 20 bonsai trees were stolen from a back yard here on Capitol Hill last week. Here is a link to the article and video where I read it:

I had 5 bonsai trees stolen from my front porch about this time last year. ( http://capitolhillseattle.com/2008/04/stolen-5-little-bonsai) It appears that the thieves are getting bolder.

I suspect in a time of crass un employment and under employment – the theft of things easily sold at yard sales and on Craigs list will increase a lot.

A few months back, I had two digital cameras taken, one cheaper and the other expensive.

I don’t know what the easy solutions are – but – lock it up, watch for strangers and call the cops.

Good luck.(I hate being ripped off, just frosts me)

I just had two potted trees stolen last night from my yard at 13th Ave E and E John. I just moved to this place from another Cap. Hill apartment a month ago. I loved those trees. I’m heartbroken. I just can’t imagine that someone would make a lot of money off of them. Sad.
