Sound Transit art project hits bump, but still on track for Halloween

I went down to the Sound Transit site this afternoon to check on the Art Installation that was scheduled for today, but found nothing but an empty lot.  I spoke with the artist, Dan Corson, who said the installation has been postponed because the rods didn’t show up as expected, and he doesn’t think they’ll come until Wednesday.

Sound Transit art program manager Barbara Luecke says that while it’s been a chaotic last couple of days trying to get this project organized, she’s confident it’ll be finished in time for it’s planned formal opening on Halloween.  And they still need volunteers, so she’s encouraging anyone who’s interested to email her at [email protected], with their availability.

For more info on the project, including a video of a similar project, check out Justin’s original report.

I hope this happens. The novelty is long gone and now that site is just a bleak looking giant slab of black asphalt, looking very empty.

With a 20 billion dollar budget, gushing with cash by any definition, what the hell are they, Sound Transit, doing asking for volunteers? Should be illegal, they are NOT a non – profit.

You need work done, like any business, you hire. Short term labor is called day labor, and there are tons of people willing to do a days work and work hard for nominal wages.

In a depression, with record unemployment, one of the deepest deep pockets wants free labor rather than giving high school or college kids or other temps their $12.00 an hour…..

Their el cheapo, stingy karma is going to haunt them…. post Halloween.

My personal thought to start the day.

But many cheers to the artist. Les muses are definitely pleased. Finally there is something to elevate the black expanse which was preceded by the dreary empty buildings waiting too many months for demolition.

REMEMBER TO VOTE – APPROVE REF 71 – HOUND FRIENDS TO VOTE – HOUND FAMILY – HOUND NEIGHBORS – EVERY VOTE COUNTS – CANCEL OUT A BIGOTS VOTE, THAT FEELS GOOD, SO GOOD

(on my way to wave a sign this morning as it is not raining … for free … a rational place for volunteers)
