In celebration of Earth Day and tomorrow’s big openings at Melrose Market (both Calf & Kid and Rain Shadow Meats are set to open), we bring you news that Homegrown Sandwiches (the “Sustainable Sandwich Shop”) plans to have seven outdoor tables and a large bike rack on Melrose Avenue “just like the one outside Stumptown and Presse on 12th”. CHS reported earlier this week about SDOT’s difficulties in finding property and business owners willing to host bike racks. SDOT will not release new bike rack locations until this summer but we can now confirm this one location at 1531 Melrose. Homegrown plans to open at the Melrose Market in June.
why do I still find this design for the bike rack offensive? Shouldn’t bike parking be a dignified experience?
You’ll also be required to signify your desire to use the bike rack with a loud rendition of “The Double Dutch Bus.”
I am pretty excited about the location choice for this bike rack. There are a lot of new businesses going in there and it is also very close to downtown! Anyone know if Homegrown needed to give approval for the rack, or if the city just chose to put it there?
