Beauty school drop out: Salon Armand opens on Boylston

Salon Armand recently opened shop at 1416 Boylston Avenue. There are three other salons within a 2-block radius, plus Great Clips and Rudy’s close by. How will Salon Armand survive?

The Armand of Salon Armand will be a familiar face to Capitol Hill residents.  Armand Pacheco, a co-owner of the new salon, has long been an instructor and leader at Gary Manuel Aveda Institute.

Pacheco said he was ready to move on to the next stage of his career. As he termed it, Salon Armand will be an “advanced training facility hair salon.” In contrast to Gary Manuel, where students learn the basics of hair cutting, styling and color, Salon Armand hair stylists will be newly licensed stylists who will be able to consult with Pacheco on each client. Prices will be less expensive than at other salons on the Hill starting at $27 for haircuts.  They carry John Masters Organics and Red Flowers product lines.

In a couple of months, Armand plans to add NanoSpa services (such as mini-facials and small area waxing services).   Thanks to @edrea for the tip.

I doubt that this business will survive. It’s got too many competitors and no sidewalk traffic.

While foot traffic is wonderful and we ALL love our walk-ins, exemplary service and creative marketing will make a business succeed.

Great Clips is gone, isn’t it?

I think it might do very well. What you need to succeed in this economy is exceptional service at an exceptional price. I had my hair done here on opening day and received both… I’m rooting for them!

BTW: Armand is a legend on the hill… if anybody can pull this off, he can.

Supercuts is closed, but Great Clips is still open at Broadway and Union.

Great Clips? Seriously?

I choose to live in this neighborhood exactly because of the wonderful diversity of small, unique and quality shops it offers. Why is “Great Clips” even part of this dialogue? Ugh!

So has “The Legend” Armand opened up an Annex from the Gary Manuel School? You can get fabulous cuts and color there under sensational supervision, a professional & fun atmosphere at fabulous prices. And plenty of parking!!! I’ve been going there for 2 years and have never had a less than an awesome experience. Do the recent graduates get picked up by the “The Legend” Armand Pacheco and get deposited at Salon Armand once they graduate from Gary Manuel? They better think twice about boarding this Turkey.

Armand has a long and successful career as both an educator and stylist stretching back to Paul Brown of Honolulu, Gene Juarez Salons an Academies and most recently the GM institute. His professional and ethical standards are high and that is what he offers both his staff and clientelle. As his partner in life I know that he would wish you happiness and good karma wherever you should choose to take your business.

As his “partner” I’m not suprized at you rising to his defense. Why does he need defending?. As a recent graduate of Gary Manuel I feel he is using the GM Institute to fund his business based on my peers at the school. He only has 5 chairs, no parking facilities and no air conditioning…and a very bad location off the main drag, no foot traffic…

Armand is the former “Director” of the Gary Manuel Institute (not a graduate). It is good to hear that you had good experiences at the institute while he was running it.

Prior to being the Director he was The Artistic Director for the Gene Juarez Academies. He has over twenty years experience in this industry and is proud to serve as an educational leader for his staff and a resource of the most current trends in the industry for his clients. Just trying to be clear about his experience and expertise.

BTW I’m a little confused earlier you said you were a client and now you state your a graduate? HMMMM Spread Joy! Be Happy!

I first sat in Armand’s chair when he was working at Gene Juarez Salon (1998). I had heard about him from a friend who heard about him from a friend (good news travels). I instantly fell in love with his warm, professional manner and the cut/style he gave me was exemplary. I haven’t gone to anyone else since that day. The consistency with which he delivers flattering styles that fit within the context of what I request is nothing short of amazing to me. Over the years I have come to know three things about Armand: 1) he always conducts himself with an unrivaled level of professionalism and integrity, 2) his sunny disposition always puts me right at ease, and 3) he is the most talented stylist I have ever encountered. I love the cozy feel of the new place and look forward to my next visit.
