Capitol Hill Food and Drink Notes: Unicorn’s meaty new menu, Trader Joe’s beer tastings

  • Unicorn’s new menu features Rain Shadow Meats (in the corn dogs, andouille sausage Po’ boys & the chorizo sausage corndog). Sadly, their patio permit application was turned down because the tree outside would not leave enough clearance (for pedestrians).
  • Local Roots Farm establishes Capitol Hill cred: “this is the neighborhood where we have lived for the last ten years. We see my sister, my parents, checkers from the Madison Market co-op, the folks who make coffee at the Joe Bar, Jason’s law school classmates, and the parents of a friend I met in second grade.”
  • More neck, more speck at Monsoon
  • You’ll soon be able to sample wine and/or beer at the Capitol Hill Trader Joe’s
  • Have you sampled EBC’s Buttered Scotch Pudding yet? If not, make a note.
  • Chicago brewer Goose Island makes its way to Capitol Hill
  • Monster Dogs v Comet Dogs and other rivalries
  • What’s the hold up on Homegrown’s opening on Capitol Hill? In a tweet — since removed! — the ‘sustainable’ sandwich shop destined for the Melrose Market last week blamed a plumbing inspection for holding up the process. Stay tuned.
  • In case you missed, Tamara Murphy has emerged victorious in her legal struggle to open Terra Plata in the Market.
