CHXmas: B(earth) ‘eco-friendly’ baby clothing born on Hill

With holiday shopping underway, here’s a gift-giving idea with local roots for any new parents you may know. B(earth) is a baby clothing company with Capitol Hill and West Seattle roots that aims “to provide clothing…as safe for your baby as it is for the environment.”  All products, even down to the clothing tags, are made from 100% organic, sweatshop-free cotton, and printed products are made using water-based inks.

In addition to providing eco-friendly products, B(earth) also employs local talent.  All clothing designs are made by Cornish graduates.  B(earth) is currently involved with WestSide Baby, a nonprofit organization that collects previously owned items for children and babies and distributes them free of charge to South King County families in need.

B(earth) was born from the minds of three eco-conscious friends, all of whom have an interest in the sustainable clothing industry. After one had a son recently, the idea of a sustainable baby clothing line was formed, and it currently runs out of the home of Luke Wilson, in Capitol Hill.  Although the business is only six months old, it has found rapid success following the sale of its first product in July of this year. People love the use of local talent and resources, and the comfortable softness of the product, Wilson says. Currently, B(earth) makes snappies, dresses, and other accessories for babies up to size 3T, and recently started producing crew neck T-shirts for toddlers, due to popular demand. B(earth) is sold in eight stores in Seattle, including Booty Land and CakeSpy on the Hill, and is also available in select locations in California and Texas.
