The Bone Yard

At the University of Washington’s Ceramic & Metal Arts Facility, on Mary Gates Boulevard, there is a small space outside the building that is referred to as “The Bone Yard.”
Where art goes to die? Absolutely not!

This facility is vibrant, offering students a range of studies in Ceramics, Glass, and Sculpture.

The UW catalog describes the space to potential students … “...There are extensive facilities for ceramics, wood and metal fabrication, foundry, digital imaging center and a gallery. The dusty floors of the CMA building hold a maze of unfinished pieces, scraps, and equipment. Parts of this jumbled labyrinth include a room filled with “electric kilns you program like a microwave,” a metal-works area called “The Foundry,” a small warehouse of table saws and chisels for wood crafting, and a new gallery for students to show off their work. One wing of the north building is strictly reserved for graduate studio space. Due to higher enrollments, additional outdoor areas have recently been cleared for more active workspace…”
