You might take these upcoming Capitol Hill baking contests lightly until you see some of the prizes they end up handing out. But the best part about the contests is giant piles of baked goods that need to be consumed — and judged. Here are two reminders about July Capitol Hill bake-offs that are still accepting entrants. Come up with a cherry whoopie pie recipe and you just might win it all.
- CHS was there for the inaugural Oddfellows Whoopie Pie Bake-Off way back in 2010. And we were there again when the whoopie pie struck back in 2011.
We’ll probably be there again in 2012 as the competition matures into what will assuredly be a brutal battle pitting the the most highly skilled whoopie pie artisans in the land head to head. If Neil Robertson doesn’t enter, we’ll be quite disappointed. Announcement for the 3rd annual bake-off is below.
It’s time again for the most charming sugar rush of all! Join us at Oddfellows Cafe + Bar on Tuesday, July 10th, from 4-6 pm for the Third Annual Whoopie Pie Bake-Off. The action will take place at our communal table, where contestants will compete for Best Home Baker, Professional or Gluten-Free/Vegan whoopie pie. There will also be votes for Most Unusual and Crowd Favorite. Our illustrious judges will be announced on Facebook (facebook.com/oddfellowscafe); we promise they’re the most acclaimed experts in making whoopies (or in makin’ whoopie) within the Two-Block Radius. Prizes include swag from neighborhood pals Molly Moon’s, Babeland, SugarPill, The Sweatbox, NuBe Green, Retrofit, and tickets to the Capitol Hill Block Party. This event is FREE to the dessert-loving public, so come get all the samples your belly can handle. - Two day prior, you can also put your pie skills to work with a more traditional variety at the first ever High 5 Pie Cherry Pie Bake-Off. The 12th Ave pie shop pros are inviting in the top amateurs in the Pacific Northwest to show off their pie skills. Serious CHS bonus points to anybody who deep fries their entry.
