Free stuff for a cause: Soon-to-be-demolished mental health facility holds housekeeping sweep

Several Capitol Hill residents and others answered the call on Craigslist, gathering this afternoon at Republican and Boylston to load up cars and handtrucks with whatever they could grab within the borders of the chain-link fences.

The two houses, currently abandoned, are the property of Community House Mental Health Agency.

As CHS reported in April, the agency plans to demolish the two buildings to make way for 44 low-income apartments.

“There’s not a whole lot of stuff,” but the open house will help streamline the demolition process, said Elizabeth Dent, property manager for Community House.
The house will be open until 6. At press time, items remaining included: a restaurant-size stove, a refrigerator, workbench, several desks and chairs, and scrap metal of various types.
