Nutty Squirrel Gelato is slated to open their third location; a “POP-UP SHOP” inside Eat Local, at the North end of Broadway Avenue, this Friday, June 3rd.
Owners Alev & Tolga Seymen, who quietly opened their first shop and kitchen in Maple Valley in 2012, have been building a reputation for delicious artisan gelato, and won Evening Magazine’s “Best Ice Cream of Western Washington” award back to back the past 2 years.
“Our business thrives where there is a strong community that appreciates good food and good people, which makes Capitol Hill the perfect spot. We appreciate the energy of Cap Hill, the towns vibrancy, the diversity, the long-time restaurant and bar scene that is here. Our hope is to serve this neighborhood delicious gelato for a long time to come.”
Eat Local invited Nutty Squirrel to open a POP-UP inside their store and Alev and Tolga were elated of the idea.
“We felt it was the perfect opportunity as we had planned to someday open a location there. We have a lot of respect for what the Eat Local crew is doing, and think that our businesses compliment each other very well. After months of discussions and planning, we’re thrilled to be joining forces with them on Broadway.”
The opening is happening just days after Nutty Squirrel Owner, Tolga, is returning from competing in the Worlds Best Gelato Championship.
The Gelato World Tour, the world’s premiere cross-cultural artisan gelato competition, has announced the 16 elite gelato flavors that will compete for the title of “World’s Best Gelato – Americas East” in Chicago, May 27-29, 2016. In this cultural event, Nutty Squirrel’s Magic Carpet Ride flavor, which combines the mystique of the oriental black sesame with a rich Belgian dark chocolate and a kick of pomegranate reduction, was chosen from hundreds of submissions as a finalist to compete for the title and represent the west coast.
So what happened in Chicago?
I just arrived back home on Monday, actually,” smiled Tolga. “Very busy 5 days! It was so much more than a competition. I got to meet gelato artisans from all over the world. Each participant had a lot to offer, and we learned so much from each other. And… I return home proud, as a World’s Best Gelato Finalist.” – Tolga Seymen, Nutty Squirrel Gelato
