Charlotte the cat travels the country with three human friends who preferred not to share their names. In addition to her three human caretakers, Charlotte pals around with a male cat, Yoda (not the father), and her six two-week old kittens. Her human friends were transporting Charlotte in their car from California to Seattle two weeks ago when Charlotte began birthing her kittens in the backseat. One stop at a truck stop later and Sephera, Baghera, Oreo, Twitch, Lucky, and the nameless one were back on the road. If you spend any time in Pike/Pine around 10th or 11th, you might find them sitting against the wall, watching the world go by.
We ask photographer Alex Garland to follow marchers in the rain and do crazy things like trying to make yet another picture of yet another huge apartment building look interesting. We thought we’d ask him to do something a little more fun. Capitol Hill Pets is a semi-regular look at our furry, fuzzy, feathered, and finned friends found out and about on Capitol Hill. Are you a Capitol Hill Pet we should know about? Drop us a line.
on the one hand: KITTENZ!!!! on the other hand: get Charlotte spayed, pronto.
Finally some kittehs! :-)
I saw Charlotte, her kittens, and a few of her panhandling owners sitting on the corner of Pike and 10th last night. They said the kittens already have homes (I enquired about adoption). Charlotte and the other cat were on leashes, something that makes me cringe.
I can only hope they are going to homes and not another corner on the hill!
If what the owners say is true (I’m skeptical, because panhandlers like to have cute pets in view to increase their donations), then the kittens will be much better off in a local home. There is no way that a group of transients without an income can take adequate care of this many pets….vaccinations, food, etc are expensive.
Please spay, neuter all of them, please! (Kittens will need to wait for that.) A number of local orgs will take care of this at no cost, or a very minimal one. For example, Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Program. I love cats, but this appears to be cruel and unthoughtful (towards the cats). Cannot imagine why spay/neuter was not mentioned in the blog entry.
