Congratulations and welcome to 2017. Unlike this seagull, you have qualified for another year on the planet. It is best to start with coffee and brunch — no matter what time you finally got out of bed. On this post, you will find a few pictures from overnight, a few from the first day of 2017, a few 2017 resolutions, and some notes on what’s going on around Capitol Hill.
Let these images of elegant people ringing in New Year’s 2017 inspire. The setting is the Washington Hall, restored to its early 20th century glory in 2016. The 108-year-old cultural asset was acquired by Historic Seattle in 2009 and was slowly and lovingly restored leading up to its June grand re-opening. Saturday night’s party was hosted by the The Hot Rhythm Club, dedicated to growing Seattle’s vintage jazz scene. Washington Hall, built in 1908 by the Danish Brotherhood, was a cornerstone of Central Seattle community through much of the 20th century. Past performers at the 14th and E Fir space included Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, and a young Jimi Hendrix.
Meanwhile, Seattle begins its 2017 with a chilly day with snow falling in nearby areas to the south and a dusting across Capitol Hill and the Central District. Bundle up and have a happy start to the new year. See something others should know about? Maybe bagpipers on 15th Ave E? Email CHS or call/txt (206) 399-5959.
