Why is it that Capitol Hill is being forced to accept demolition of all its single family dwellings in favor of more density and “sustainability”. Does this shift really enhance the quality of life? Seems to me that the truly “sustainable” element here is the money the developers make and the increased city tax revenue stream when 6 or 8, overpriced, cheaply built (and mostly ugly) million dollar or more properties are shoe-horned into a site that used to have only one dwelling. Hasn’t research been done about what happens when you cram too many rats in one cage? I am fearful that density is not it is all cracked up to be. Figure in one dog per every two people (as it seems) and that complicates the picture. Seattle has been transformed into just another big city with increased stress, less serenity, less green space and trees, fewer views, more people, increasingly expensive COL, more traffic than the infrastructure can handle and fewer people here who actually have a commitment to the VALUES that at one time sustained a stellar quality of life in a beautiful location for the long term. Most now seem happy to make their money and probably get out when they grow tired of the climate. Seattle is not the kind of city that drew so many of us here, so many years ago. Unfortunate and highly disturbing….I can’t be the only one feeling this way.
