Student demonstrators holding election ’emergency rally’ in Cal Anderson

A student-led demonstration planned before Election Night’s surprisingly convincing Donald Trump victory will rally in Capitol Hill’s Cal Anderson Park Wednesday night.

Organizers from University of Washington Students for a Democratic Society and the Freedom Road Socialist Organization announced the demonstration Tuesday.

Wednesday as Kamala Harris conceded, the organizers said protest groups would meet Wednesday in the Capitol Hill park to “chant, mourn, and hear speeches about the political situation and upcoming period of instability.”

Organizers are planning for students to gather in the University of Washington quad before joining others on Capitol Hill. The rally in Cal Anderson is scheduled to begin at 6 PM.

Wednesday’s planned demonstration follows Election Night arrests on Capitol Hill as a small group of black bloc protesters marched on the East Precinct and were vandalizing and spray painting graffiti in areas of Cal Anderson and on nearby buildings. SPD was quick to move in on the group, making multiple arrests and breaking up the march within an hour of its start.

The non-committed, democratic socialists agenda worked in just enough blue states to shift the vote. Kamala lost by 1 to 2 percent, or less, in multiple states that Joe won. Enjoy the next 4 years. You got what you asked for.
But please remember that politics is not about purity, its about winning. Not whining.

Yeah, I walked by the Socialist booth at the Capitol Hill Station and heard the two white college aged guys manning it talking to another college aged white guy about how it really didn’t matter who won. I almost lost it on them. How clueless can one be? Way to tell the women bleeding to death due to Republican abortion policies that they aren’t worth your consideration.

Not to mention, you can tell they don’t honestly believe this by the fact that these protests stopped while Biden was elected and started right back up as soon as Trump was. Why waste their breath protesting an administration that could not care less about them while refusing to protest the one that might actually be persuadable? They have no idea what they’re doing and seem to just enjoy moping in annoying groups as though they had no agency.

When in power Democratic Congresses had 49 years to codify the right to abortion to protect it in perpetuity but never did. Why? Because, for those decades, lack of support was virtually identical between Republicans and Democrats. This would never have even been debatable in the 21st century had the Ds been as you perceive.

Who cares? What mattered in this election is that one candidate might attempt to ban abortion federally while the other would not. And your guy Bernie was calling abortion a distraction from “real” issues back in 2016, so it wasn’t on his radar as being in real jeopardy, either.

Just for the record, the awful Supreme Court decision to move abortion regulation to the states also means the R’s can’t regulate it (positively or negatively) from Congress.

The majority of these people are 35 and younger. They have no idea what they are really doing.

That’s not true. If you combine every third-party vote for PSL or Green, you still don’t get enough votes against Donald Trump to win. White women voted for Trump at 55% and white men were the largest majority to not come out to vote. It has nothing to do with politics, as most people who lean socialist and live in a swing state voted Kamala anyway for harm reduction. You’re just looking to blame the left, as usual, because you aren’t smart enough to figure out that Capitalism is to blame…still…are things getting fun yet???

You are exactly the problem that I am talking about. Why else did you respond?
Your rhetoric is, at least, consistent.

That sounds super fun. “Chanting and mourning” with lots of navel gazing I’m sure. Seattle is still a left wing stronghold and will continue to have its current policies for the foreseable future. Be happy you live here and please don’t worry – the crime, homelessness, drug addiction, and mental health issues encountered daily on our streets (and which we all love) are here for the long term. Seattle is the way it is because that’s how people in Seattle want it to be. Democracy in action – we’re lucky!

Well spoken but anachronistic. Navel gazing changed significance the same time Buddhism did with Nazism. Did our precept of freedom cause the great depression? Did this election proliferate the poppy plant? Does addiction synergize with American politics? Is this just a nice place to sleep in a tent and get wasted? Maybe asking these questions to the deported have a different twist. Starving on a farm is more common in america than in Honduras. Is that because there are more farmers there? Are these confused and angry kids navel gazing or cultivating the ghost of tom joad?

Giant effing eye roll. We all saw the posters from our neighborhood socialists with Harris’s and Trump’s faces X’ed out, equating them as equally terrible for the working class. I swear, these people simply love to protest but don’t do a thing to actually improve the situation for anyone. Enjoy your feeble protests which will amount to nothing but pissing into the wind during the next four+ years of our fascist future. Maybe next time you’ll finally learn that even if you live in a solidly blue state, how you talk about the candidates influences those who don’t.

Biden was lauded as the most pro-union President since FDR because of his pro-union policies, not by me, but by the freaking union leaders themselves, most of whom spoke at the DNC in support of Harris. None of this matters now, but you can easily look them up.

Washington went blue you dolt…what point are you making. The electoral college is how Kamala lost nationally, not Washington votes…

It was also her HORRIBLE AND OUT OF TOUCH campaign.

Socialists (and yes, anarchists) will continue to be on the forefront of helping the most vulnerable in our society through mutual aid and organizing, since we all already know people like you do nothing to help the world and just complaaaaaaain

As a healthcare worker, I have made my entire career helping people, so screw you. I don’t walk around smashing windows and letting fascists take over because the other candidate was imperfect.

My point was in the very last line of my original post if you can get it through your thick young ignorant skull. Young college kids didn’t turn up across the country to vote because the young college kid message was “Kamala is a cop” and “Kamala and Trump are interchangeable.” It does not matter if you live in a blue state when the internet exists and that’s the message you guys were spreading. And now you act outraged that Trump won.

Or, it was middle America’s response to four years of endless riots and crime in Blue cities, delivered in part by Socialistic Mayors and Councils. And your Mutual Aid helps people remain addicted, camping in parks where they are more likely to die by OD. Kudos. Thanks.

The far leftist losers love this sh*t. A Trump victory is what they always wanted. Now they get to fundraise for stupid cult political organizations, do their self-righteous marches, and degrade the quality of life in a city where pretty much everyone voted against Trump.

Waaaaah waaaah waaaaaaaaaaaaah why don’t you do something positive for the next four years instead of complain about people you never interact with?

I will do something positive. To me that means taking care of people and broadening the coalition to win back the legislative branch from the Republicans in two years, not destroying property and turning allies into enemies.

“Students with an emergency protest” = bored children throwing tantrums like in 2020, wasting our tax dollars.

Marching through the neighborhood shouting 2020-era slogans isn’t going to change anything. It’ll create more noise, though.

And what do you know of the organizational efforts by the groups within our communities? What do you know of the history of our organizational efforts? The Port Huron Statement, the 10 Point Program, of any of our history. You call us bored, you call us children, you say we are throwing tantrums. As a student who was a member of this protest, I ask you to open your eyes and eyes. We are afraid. We are angry. Boredom is not our motivator- the discrimination we face in the America we are present in is. You assume on character and the prejudices you hold. If you would listen to us speak, and I beg that you do, we strive for change.
