Seattle City Council on summer break before busy fall of budget, growth plan, and election

@cmjoyhollings — “This is Mario Estany, a District 3 resident and an absolutely beautiful soul. Itโ€™s people like him who make our community shine, reminding us that what makes District 3 and Seattle a special isnโ€™t just the place, but the people who pour love, light, and energy into it every single day.
If you run into him, make sure you say heeeeeeey Marioooooooo. โค๏ธโค๏ธ”

The Seattle City Council has been quiet. The city’s legislative body’s summer recess is underway.

The annual late summer break stretches two weeks though some council members have remained busy. District 3 representative for Capitol Hill, First Hill, and the Central District Joy Hollingsworth remained busy with the tumult over permitting for the August 30th fundamentalist Christian rally now moved from Cal Anderson to Gas Works Park.

When the council reconvenes in September, they will have their hands full.

The 2025 budget season promises to be especially challenging amid an improving but still weakened economic forecast for the city.

Hollingsworth will also wrestle consensus on updating the city’s 20-year growth and zoning plan as chair of the council’s Comprehensive Plan committee.

Meanwhile, the 2025 election season will be peaking at City Hall with the two citywide seats on the council, the mayor’s office, and the city attorney’s office all up for grabs.

The Seattle City Council returns to action on Tuesday, September 2nd as its transportation committee is scheduled to meet that morning followed by a meeting of the full council that afternoon.
