- Gay bar hate investigation: Police investigated a reported bias assault outside Capitol Hill queer bar Union earlier this month. According to the SPD report on the July 3rd incident, police were called to the E Union venue to a report of a group of males assaulting patrons at the venue. “The suspects reportedly waited outside the bar to confront the patrons and used homophobic language that suggested they had targeted the patrons for their perceived sexual orientation,” the police report brief reads. SPD says the suspects fled the scene and could not be located.
- Safeway paper towel blaze: A paper towel fire cleared out the Capitol Hill Safeway Saturday night. Seattle Fire says it was called to the 15th and John grocery around 7:15 PM to a reported fire on the shelves in the back of the store. Arriving firefighters discovered someone had set fire to a paper towel roll and the flames were spreading across the shelves. The fire was quickly snuffed out and a pile of charred rolls was moved outside the store. Shoppers reported the grocery remained shuttered Saturday night in the aftermath of the fire. There were no reported injuries. Seattle Fire was investigating the incident to determine if it should be handed over to arson investigators at the Seattle Police Department.
- East Precinct warrant arrest: East Precinct cops made one of the easiest collars of the week as officers found a wanted federal fugitive passed out at the wheel of a vehicle parked in front of their E Pine at 12th Ave headquarters Sunday morning. According to SPD, the suspect was found asleep around 7:30 AM. As officers were checking on his condition, they found the man was armed with a semi-automatic handgun. Police secured the weapon and detained the man. A check of records showed the suspect was wanted by the United States Marshals Service for parole violation due to cocaine possession. The 39-year-old was arrested for the warrant and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1st Degree. He was booked into King County Jail.
- Belmont stolen car bust: Police were able to chase down a suspect spotted in a stolen vehicle after a short foot chase last Thursday night. SPD says the arrest took place after an officer spotted the stolen car parked in the 100 block of Belmont Ave E around 8:30 PM. The occupant of the car attempted to flee but was chased down after a foot chase. Police say the suspect was booked into jail. There were no reported injuries.
- Friend steals bag at gunpoint: Police were investigating after a woman said someone she knew punched her, pulled a gun, and stole her bag. SPD was called to E Thomas St and Boylston Ave E just after 8 AM Wednesday to the reported incident. The victim said the known suspect fled on foot and was last seen southbound on Harvard Ave E. Police conducted an area check but the suspect could not be found.

Absolutely no room for gay hate in Capitol Hill, come on!
Idealism is gonna get Capitol Hill messed up. at this point the only thing gay about the hill is the 6 gay bars and the one queer club. After that… it’s just families and cis hetero couples. Being single, gay and working class is expensive and capitalism preys on us because of that.
I actually think in the political environment of capitol hill there is a lot of room for gay hate. Anybody that has been to Union knows it’s mostly white gays which experience a lot of hate by the activists on the hill now.
A tv show could be made about some of this neighborhood drama. Sheesh.
“Drama” – Hillery’s coded words meaning “gay”.
I assumed they meant the paper towel arsonist, as it’s the most bizarre item reported…
hey hey! cops finally got some bad guys! good job
