The Pike/Pine Neighborhood Party: a picnic in the name of preservation?

The party will feature a variety of food and drink for sale from several neighborhood establishments, including Rosebud, Rancho Bravo, High-5 Pies, Molly Moon’s, and several of the businesses that recently set up shop at the Melrose Market.  In addition, the event will offer guests a chance to highlight what they value about the neighborhood and to learn about the City’s proposed legislation to strengthen protections for Pike/Pine’s historic buildings.  The Pike/Pine Urban Neighborhood Council (P/PUNC) is organizing the event, which will take place from 5:30 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, June 23rd at Ragen and Associates, located at 517 E. Pike St.

One year ago, the City implemented Phase 1 of the Pike/Pine Conservation Overlay District, a first step toward preserving the Pike/Pine’s historic buildings.  This summer, the City is pursuing Phase 2, and P/PUNC is looking to raise awareness of the proposal among the neighborhood’s many stakeholders, including residents, workers, and business and property owners.  This is the first of several events coming this summer regarding the proposed legislation.

On July 7th, P/PUNC and the Capitol Hill Design Review Board will hold a community meeting at 6:30 pm at the Seattle University Admissions and Alumni Building, located at 824 12th Ave.  The joint meeting will be another opportunity for the community not only to learn about the proposal but also to offer comments to city officials.
