New free coworking meetup for women in technology at Metrix

++XX is a new community coworking group for women in technology – developers, designers, user experience, social media, technical writers, startup founders / entrepreneurs, etc. It’s open to ladies of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of skill – students, professionals, experts, complete novices, and everything in between.

The first Capitol Hill meeting is Monday, October 17, from 6:30pm-9:30pm. From then on, the group will meet twice a month on Capitol Hill at Metrix : Create Space and twice a month in the International District at Jigsaw Renaissance.

+XX is intended to provide an alternative to stuffy, formal networking events. Attendees are encouraged to bring their laptops and projects and share skills and tips. The mailing list sends out reminders about the coworking events as well as other Seattle technology events that may be of interest.

Crossing the line of appropriate neighbor behavior

I’ve always believed that what my neighbors do with their yards is primarily their own business. However, my friend’s story about his capitol hill neighbors leaving a dead pig in their backyard and letting their dogs eat it (?!) may prompt me to reconsider.

I’m also confused – are there really a ton of wild pigs roaming the hill? My first reaction to finding one in my yard would be closer to shock and awe than “yay, free dog food this week!”

Tuesday, 9/9 – Capitol Hill Art Walk

This month’s art walk features diverse offerings featuring subjects from street art to S&M and beyond. At Babeland, Ellen Forney will be showing work from her new book LUST. It’s a collection of works she did for The Stranger where she illustrated that week’s most unusual/amusing personal ad. Jonathan Fischer‘s urban-inspired art “combines themes of ancient Asia with the urban style of our modern times. Geishas throwin’ down phat beats, Sumo wrestlers wailing into microphones and Samurai warriors jamming on electric keyboards are perfect examples of his work.” A full list of artists and venues is available on the 2nd Tuesday myspace page.
