Proposed Land Use

1222 E Pine Street, on the corner of 13th and Pine across from the fire station and The Cuff.  Proposed 6 story retail/restaurant/residential units with some amount of parking. I wonder that the developers are not concerned with the excess amount of empty retail spaces within the immediate neighborhood.  15th and E John Court over by Group Health still stands mostly empty.  Retail space along 12th just a few short blocks away stand empty.  Many new restaurants have already closed.  Is Capitol Hill still *the* destination to bring in new businesses or should developers look at using existing structures instead of building new developments and charging obscene amounts of rent?

UPDATE (jseattle): Here’s the Google Street View of the corner:

Poco Wine Room Anniversary Night!

If you’re not busy, stop by Poco Wine Room (located on Pine between 14th and 15th) tonight to help celebrate 2 years on the hill!  We dropped in last night and had a great time.  I finally met Bart, one of the owners, and we managed to put away 4 fabulous bottles of wine with the help of 4 of our friends.  Happy Hour specials all night:   $2 off each glass of wine and $8 off each bottle.  It’s a great deal!

“Tagging” License Plates?

In 2 days, I have seen at least 8 license plates with a black slash of spray paint in the upper right corner, covering the month/year tab stickers.  Most of these cars were parked near Group Health (not that one should make an association with the hospital, just citing location) and one was driving by.  Have you seen any cars with this mark?  Any thoughts on what/who is doing it?  I doubt the state department is marking cars with expired tabs.

Madison Market Celebrates 30 Years

On November 2nd, 12-5pm at the Richard Hugo House, Madison Market is throwing a party to celebrate 30 years.  More details here.

There has previously been a debate on CHS about the residents favorite grocery store.  Madison Market is mine.  I occasionally cheat and run over to Safeway or QFC, but 9 times out of 10, I shop at MadMar.  What’s your favorite store on the hill?  One of the 3 QFC’s?  Safeway?  Trader Joe’s?  Madison Market?  The Farmer’s Market?  Am I missing one?  Also, how many folks use a CSA?  I just picked up my first box from Full Circle Farm today, thanks to Seadevi‘s recommendation.

Poco Wine Room Turns 2!

This is one of my favorite places on the Hill.  According to the email newsletter I just received:

Come and celebrate with us on Friday October 31 and Saturday November 1st. Both of those nights, we will have Happy Hour ALL night long. That means $8 off each bottle and $2 off each glass pour. We can’t think a better or simpler way to say “thanks” to all of you who have been guests at Poco the last two years.

I don’t know about you, but I’ll likely be there! Poco finds some fantastic wines and this neighborhood treasure should be supported.  Website here, located at 14th and Pine, between Online Coffee and Zaw.

Blogging CHS:!3{2}What is important to us

I love blogging. You might say that I’m a blogging addict, participating in a few of my own blogs, CHS, and Seattle Metblogs. The variety of things that I like to post about are things that interest me; whether it’s a photo, a quick news story, a rant, a suggestion, or a personal story.

I’ve been watching CHS since close to the birth of the original blog and have watched it grow into something that the entire community shares and cultivates. I love reading the variety of stories that people feel compelled to write about. That’s why it saddens me to read comments that demean, belittle, or otherwise put down the authors and commenters when someone deems it to be of little importance. There is nothing wrong with posting about the little things that bug us: that’s what makes this a reflection on the community. Not every contribution is going to be about the most important agenda item ever. That’s what I like about this community. If someone wants to write that they are irked by a business sign, they should be able to without being belittled for it.
