How CHS does a pledge drive

Now that this wonderful machine of neighborhood infotainment is up and running, it’s probably time to talk a little bit more about what we’re up to.

First, the site is a business — even has its own corporation: CHS Capitol Hill Seattle, LLC. I plan to sell enough advertising to keep it alive. Forever. Corporate schwag coming soon, I’m sure.

In the meantime, I’m trying to sell enough advertising to do two things:

  1. Thank a few neighbors for helping me out. My support crew should be familiar to you from blogs around the Hill — thanks to Adam, Final Answer, mattw, seadevi, Wesa and Sparkling Allison for helping to get us off to a great start.
  2. Transition to a sharing system that enables anybody who is interested to make money off the advertising on the site. Hopefully more on that this summer.

It’s not all about money, of course, but money is necessary to keep the basic elements of the site alive and, sometimes, justify the extra effort of adding content to the site.

But you also have the opportunity to be part of the information give and take of the community. The biggest change with the new CHS isn’t the new design or the neighborhoods — the biggest change is now everybody can grab the conch and have their say.

You can post stories on this site now, too. All you need to do is sign up and start writing or uploading your pictures and videos.

  • Everything appears on the Stories page.
  • We pick the best stuff to appear on the homepage.
  • We watch the traffic and comments to see what people are reading so you can vote with your eyeballs or drop us a mail if you think something needs to get elevated to the front page.

So, consider this post our pledge drive. Only, we’re not asking for your money. We’re asking for you to be part of the neighborhood(s), to post information you want others to know and for your attention to stories from across the Hill. Thanks for giving.

does this mean we’re competitors now (i mean with my day job, not the blogging)? are we supposed to have a duel at dawn or something?

When is the last time you saw dawn? (say hello to her for me)
