Plum ready to give you vegan happy hours

We were a week early on Plum’s opening. After some issues during its ‘soft opening’ last week, Plum should be open and ready for business starting this Saturday. The new ‘vegan bistro’ from the good people of Hillside Quickie fills the space recently vacated by Cafe Stellina on 12th Ave. Here are the details passed along from Plum including some menu items and a look at the cocktail options. You can also check out this write-up from the Seattle Times.

SEATTLE – July 20, 2009 – Plum, a 100 percent vegan and organic restaurant, will open Saturday, July 25 on Capitol Hill’s 12th Avenue, in the Pike Pine Triangle.
The menu features such items as BBQ Po’ Boy made with seitan, pickled onions and lettuce on a French roll served with garlicky yam fries, and Quinoa Sliders made of sloppy Joe-style millet and quinoa mix, grilled onions, chopped jalapenos and cilantro, with jalapeno aioli sauce. Plum uses local, organic, vegan ingredients from Island Spring Organics and Organically Grown Company. Entrées range from $13 to $16. The menu will also offer appetizers, salads and desserts including vegan soft serve.

At the helm of the restaurant is Makini Howell of Hillside Quickies, Inc. Howell hopes Plum will appeal to vegans and non-vegans diners alike by offering a casual dining experience in a familiar environment where the dishes just happen to be vegan.
Plum will have a full bar with weekday happy hour. For a weekday pick-me-up the restaurant will feature coffee happy hour with drink specials.

“A 2-alarm fire destroyed a historic Tacoma market (Quicky Grocery Mart) Monday afternoon….The owner (Niombi Howell) for the past 40 years says the mart is the main supply location for a chain of vegan restaurants in Tacoma and Seattle.”
