First Hill walking tour tells a 100-year-old story of love and race in Seattle

Take a walk through history Wednesday night as MOHAI tells the story of the challenges an interracial couple faced trying to find someone to marry them in 1911 Seattle:

The tour is called Raise a Toast: Centennial Walk of an Interracial Marriage on First Hill and is based on the real life story of a black man and white woman who struggled to find someone to marry them in 1911. The tour will follow their path as they walked from the downtown courthouse, through First Hill, and ending at First AME Church, where they were finally wed. The tour guide will also talk about how Seattle has changed over 100 years. At the end of the tour, MOHAI will treat guests to snacks at Oddfellows Café! The tour is on Wednesday, July 20, 6 pm. Details and tickets can be found here: http://seattlehistory.org/visit_us/calendar.php?id=218

The walk starts at the Frye Art Museum on Terry.
