‘Three of the top coffee shops around — Starbucks, Caffe Vita and Tully’s’ — UPDATE

Nothing makes Seattle look more backwater than the city flipping out over things like the Today Show coming to town. But forgive us. For many of our up and coming businesses — including a handful on Capitol Hill — the national show’s visit is an opportunity for unprecedented exposure.

And an ego boost.

Below are clips including three businesses with Capitol Hill ties — including, believe it or not, Victoria Liss and Bimbos Cantina. UPDATE: One more…. almost forgot the Murray Stenson clip from Canon.

It wasn’t all about marketing. Or was it? Check out Occupy Seattle hijacking a few segments with well-placed signage:

Also, this just makes our city look horrible. Come on, the Today folks couldn’t do a tiny bit of research and maybe at least have a ‘coffee thing’ between maybe Vivace, Victrola, and Vita? Of course vita won. They are the only people in that contest that actually MAKE coffee.

Secondly, does the rest of the country just believe that Seattle is the Market? So glad to be getting out…..

Oh god. They came all the way to Seattle to drink coffee from two chains and one has-been indy?

I just strawpolled some friends about “three best cafes in Seattle”, and Starbucks was mentioned ONCE, in the form of the Roy Street Cafe. Tullys and Vita were named never.

I don’t know what kind of coffee Cafe Solstice on the Ave uses – but I swear they make the best cup of coffee/espresso drinks in Seattle. Victrola is literally undrinkable.

People – Tully’s, Starbucks, and Cafe Vita all paid to have their coffees as part of this test.

It’s a paid placement and is done all the time.

At first the comment about “carb hell” was when she suggested it to the couple before ordering…now it seems to have come when the food arrived and it wasn’t what they ordered.

I do appreciate that Victoria got the Today Show to highlight her FB page under the identity of “Vadge Mc Masterson” on mainstream tv. heh heh heh

The market thing cracks me up. Every time Seattle has a football game or something similar on national tv you can bet there will be a shot of some of fish tossing.

I see. Because I have preferences that you don’t understand, you are better than me.

Stay here in Seattle, you fit right in.

If I were in her shoes, I would want to hide from shame.

Just like everyone thinks SF is the bridge and some cable cars.
Just like everyone thinks NY is the Empire State Building.
Just like everyone thinks LA is the Hollywood sign.
Just like everyone thinks Omaha is a corn field.

Unless you don’t. But if you do, that’s your fucking problem.

False name on fb, isn’t that against the fb law?

That response from Jeff Ofelt is what I would call a non-response. There’s a bunch of words there but he’s not saying anything. He’s ducking responsibility by not taking a stand. For example “we believe every individual should be treated with respect”. Is putting a customer’s credit card receipt online and egging people on to attack/bully him OK with you or not Jeff? I don’t think that is very respectful of your customers, whether they make rude comments or not.

Has Liss been disciplined? This is what we want to know. What “necessary actions are you taking to protect your customers”? We want specifics, not generalities.

Put your fucking pitchfork down. All I want from them is a pepper-steak burrito. Is your main form of exercise indignation and/or false outrage? It’s that attitude that makes Seattle seem small-time.

Why is she still employed there? Isn’t copying a receipt and then posting it a crime or is this a normal practice at Bimbos? I wonder if she also changes the tip amount and totals on the receipt? I can smell several lawsuits….

An employer cannot say publicly how an employee is reprimanded, that is illegal. Ms. Liss did not break any laws it was merely a question of ethics which she clearly had none.

Why does she always look like she’s on a bender?

@joeb

“An employer cannot say publicly how an employee is reprimanded, that is illegal.”

can you please cite this? i’m looking online and not finding it anywhere. i don’t think that a business is prohibited from commenting about why they let an employee go. they may not want to do so for p.r.’s sake. but it doesn’t seem like it would be illegal. if you have proof that it is, it’d love to read it.

and yes, i think bimbos is trying to cover its ass with this comment.

basically, the way i see it, jeff is saying, “we think our waitress is in the right and andrew had no right to leave his comment; even though we don’t know his side of the story. we’re sorry for the negative press this has brought on bimbos because it seems it’s cutting into our profits and we’ll appear to be contrite. we saw the negative posts and have told victoria to make her false accusations to her known friends on facebook only.”

Cafe Solstice uses Lighthouse Roasters. Porchlight Coffee on Capitol Hill also uses Lighthouse.

Wow what a bunch of negative complaining pricks have posted to this. Let the Bimbo’s thing die. Nobody cares anymore. It’s done and was just a media circus around some stupid decisions by both parties. Secondly, (even if they did pay for their tv spot) can’t anyone be happy that the local “indie” coffee house beat out 2 national powerhouses and shows that our city is better than the mass produced coffee Starbucks and Tully’s promote. Notice how simplicity and quality won. Jesus. Some people just are looking to complain about anything they can. Try to show some optimism for once!

Is your complaining about other people complaining somehow exempt you from being a complaining prick?

The bartender/DJ was having good fun with the whole Liss thing last night. Kept getting on the mic and saying things like “Thanks for coming out. Hopefully Victoria Liss didn’t insult you … yada yada.”

Seems the bar is enjoying the 15 minutes as well.

what happened to that poor guy who got mistaken for this whole thing? no mention of him on that morning show? that would have been the best time for miss liss to say she was sorry about that, but no mention of that part of the story. i guess if NBC didnt say it, it didnt happen.

I hope he sues the tits off that fat, hysterical bitch. I really can’t figure out which is worse – the jerkoff who left the note in the first place or the skank attention whore that went ballistic.

Comment. Make your point. Cut it out with the bitch stuff. Go ahead and say “shit” and “fuck” if it makes you feel better, but leave ugliness like this out of it. I don’t want to delete your POV. But I do want to delete the extreme hate.

@Chimsquared

Actually, since you asked, my main form of exercise is dancing with my cat to Hall and Oates.

The reason this incident has made me and others angry is the fact that a totally innocent man had his name, photo and identity splashed all over the national media and received hate mail and death threats. I find the invasion of privacy as well as the lynchmob mentality that went after him frightening and troubling. It could have happened to anyone with a Facebook profile. I don’t think this is some small thing and Liss is completely responsibile. She has yet to take responsibility for her actions. I hope the wrong Andrew Meyer sues her because despite the claims of all the Mark Zuckerbergs of the world, privacy does and should matter.
