Man says $10k in bikes stolen from Capitol Hill condo — Plus, is this Muffin?

CHS gets more notes about stolen bikes than stolen automobiles. Here are details on one big ugly rip-off and another theft from a location that reportedly has a bike thievery problem. Oh, and since we’re talking about lost things we love, there’s also a note about a FOUND doggie looking for its owner, below.

$10k Belmont bike boost: A Craigslist poster says he lost more than $10,000 worth of bikes and cycling gear in an October 26th burglary at his condo in the 300 block of Belmont Ave E.

The following bikes were stolen from my condo today:

1) A 2011 Gunnar Sport (Blue / White) with aluminum fenders

– Serial #J11021- Ultegra 6700 group- Mavic Open Pro rims with a Power Tap Elite- Deda superzero carbon seatpost- Deda Zero100 stem and bars (white)- Selle Italia Flite Saddle (team edition, white)

2) A Velo Vie Vitesse 300SE (White)- Serial number CA091200292- Ksyirium SL Wheels- SRAM Force group- White bar tape, white Selle Italia Saddle- FSA stem and handlebars

3) A Redline Conquest Team (Red / Black)

– Ultegra 6600 group- Open Pro wheelset (silver)- FSA Gossamer cyclocross crankset- new shimano cyclocross canti brakes

4) A 2010 Giant Anthem X2 29’er

– Completely stock, but tires are set up with Stan’s tubeless

This incident was posted about on Reddit Seattle where commenters added some helpful advice and commiserated. CHS has confirmed that the Wednesday, October 26th morning burglary occurred at a condo building in the 300 block of Belmont Ave E when thieves accessed the parking area of the building. More pictures of the missing bikes on the Craigslist jump as well as the man’s contact info if you have information to help. There is a cash reward.

SCCC bike rack not so secure? Also offering a reward is the boyfriend of a woman who had her bike ripped off from the rack in front of Seattle Central Tuesday night. Take it away, Michael:

Naomi was in Spanish class between 7pm and 9pm tonight (Tues).  She locked her bike up at a stanchion near plaza where the CH Farmers Market takes place each week.  Here’s a Google Maps link where you can see the stanchions.  When she came out of class around 9pm, her bike, lock and helmet were all gone. We’re thinking someone may have unbolted the stanchion, lifted it up, and removed the back from underneath it.

After speaking with SCCC security guard – apparently it was the third bike stolen at the location today.

We have not confirmed the details of the theft with SCCC. But, having used that rack to lock the CHS newsmobile several times, we plan to. Michael tells us that Naomi works as a youth outreach coordinator for BikeWorks in Columbia City and was only a week off getting the clearance to resume biking after recovering all summer from a broken leg. The bike is described as “a Surly Long Haul Trucker” with” Zebra tape handlebars, two matching upholders, rear rack.” If you have any information about it, ping Mike via Twitter.

Is this Muffin? Our final item in this roster of lost things is a little sweetie found wandering the streets of Capitol Hill near 16th and Roy the morning after Halloween.

Found this morning, 11/1/11: wet, cold, hungry dog wandering on Roy St between 16th and 17th Ave E. She is now fed and waiting to be reunited with her owner.

If she is yours, contact info can be found in the CHS classified post about the wayward pup. There’s been a lot of interest in the dog — believed to be a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel — including some big media inquiries trying to help find her owner. One commenter says the animal is one of the latest round of Capitol Hill poster dogs so maybe there’s somebody out there looking for her. But, so far, the search continues.

Yeah someone needs to catch these guys. I know there’s been at least a couple of bikes stolen from the Harvard QFC bike rack in the last month as well.

I recently had a nice bike stolen in broad daylight downtown. I eventually got it back through Stolen Bike Registry. It’s totally free and very useful.

Thanks for covering this for my buddy. I really appreciate everyone keeping an eye out. As far as I know he hasn’t had any luck getting his homeowners insurance to cover it :(

Thieves pretty much need to be shot on sight. Problem is, we rarely see them in action.

That being said….One guy owns $10,000 worth of bicycles??? Seriously???

Naomi actually got her bike back after someone purchased it for cheap and looked it up on the Bike Registry. Sounds like it’s served as a great resource for many…

God forbid people buy things you don’t.

Personally, I’m more offended that people spend $10,000 on cars.

I’m offended too. The cars you can get for 10k are ugly.
