Capitol Club management says the rumors are true — the E Pine club will shutter this Saturday:

Yes, the rumors are true. The Capitol Club will be closing their doors this Saturday, September 14th, 2013. So please come by and visit us all this week. The deck will be open and the beer will be flowing.

We’re still hoping to talk with Robin Cohen, who took over the club in 2008, and business partner Leihulu Iwi’ula about the closure.

UPDATE: Cohen confirmed that there is a new owner moving in and that the sale marks the end of her partnership with Iwi’ula. “It was just time to sell the bar and part ways. We got a offer that we couldn’t refuse,” she said.

“It’s sad to have to let go but… all good things must come to a end.”

Linda Derschang opened the club in the mid ’90s but much of its most recent life has seen the E Pine nightspot on the market. CHS reported ownership was asking $1.1 million back in winter, 2011. According to county records, the building is still owned by the family who used to operate the Kamalco restaurant at the location prior to its life as a club.

Seattle Gay Scene first reported that the club is changing hands. People familiar with the situation say the new venture will open in the space following an overhaul of the two-story venue that still bears many markings from its former life as a restaurant.

  1. ..some of the friendliest people working behind a bar in Seattle are at this place. Thanks for making me and my friends always feel welcome whenever we show up. Good luck to everyone there. I’ll be stopping in one more time to say “Hi” & “Bye’!
