From Russia with love on 19th Ave.

19th Avenue is funky. Dotted with businesses and homes cool, quirky and queer, it has an organic kind of Seattle funk. While we don’t know exactly how funky its Winter Ball 2006 will be, the Russian Cultural Center at 704 19th Ave is definitely emblematic of the street’s odd appeal. It’s the kind of place that might make you ask, ‘Why?’ and then, ‘Why here?’

This Sunday Feb. 12th, they’re reportedly holding some sort of ‘semi-formal’ event. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary to do with your Sunday night, consider these promised offerings:

  • Karaoke, fun games and activities with prizes
  • Two DJs and music for all tastes
  • Professional dance performances and free dance lessons
  • Appetizers provided, beer and wine bar for purchase

We consider it highly inappropriate to not attend events we recommend, so even though we’re not sure we’ll have the guts to wander in Sunday night, now we have to go. What will it be like? Will they make us speak Russian? We can’t predict. Why? Why here? Basically, it will a typical trip down 19th Ave. Only there will be more people around speaking Russian and wearing formal gowns. We’re picturing our own little version of the ‘Russian Ark‘ — Seattle, вы любит станцевать?

Our lawyers have advised us not to answer this but gonna have to admit it — we’re lame and didn’t go. We didn’t even do a walk-by (which we’ve been known to do in past when trying to work up the nerve to wander into something peculiar). We’re offering full refunds on that post. You can have your 23 seconds back!
