Seattle PI ‘hood blogger goes indie

Seattle PI’s neighborhood blog project just lost Georgetown — the man behind Georgetown Stew is pulling his blog from the service. One reason to quit — he’s tired of giving stuff away for free to the man:

The PI (and by association, Hearst) owns everything you write. Which is okay when you’re just reporting news and trying to get some name recognition. But if you really want to put yourself into a serious piece, you’re giving them a freebie.

Now Georgetown might be in need of a new neighborhood-focused site. We’re glad the author will continue to write on his own blog, The Paper Noose, but sounds like he’s bored of restricting his focus to the neighborhood. Could be your chance. If you’re thinking about starting your own neighborhood blog, go indie. Drop us a line if you need help.

I seem to remember you told me to go indy a long time ago…maybe it was inevitable. Thanks for the props, and holler if you ever want to tip one at the Canterblurry, j.p.
