Here are two additions to our recent Dear Santa letter for the neighborhood.
- Liquor store on 15th. When we want peppermint RumpleMinze, we want it now. We don’t want to drive to 12th. We don’t want to drive to Broadway. We are a little bit afraid of 23rd and Union.
- Don’t let VPC close next week. We’re home for the holidays. It would be very nice to be able to walk over there for coffee and yummy baked goods every day of our vacation. Make it happen.
from the VPC e-mail newsletter: Volunteer Park Cafe & Marketplace will be closed December 24 – January 2. We will reopen on January 3 for normal operating hours.

The more people go down to 23rd & Union, the less afraid you’ll be. You have to go down there to the Post Office anyway. Nothing’s liable to happen during the hours that the liquor store is open.
Well, you could walk to 12th or Broadway.
Or bike or skate, etc. Real problem is WA state’s old school liquor rules. Miss CA where you can buy the hard stuff at Safeway.
And, yes, Andrew, we’re being nervous nellies.
We definitely need a market on 19th. Perhaps when they tear down the holiday “gifts and craft” store/mob front (next to Kingfish) they can put up one of those mixed-use buildings with a “Mont’s Market” type place on the 1st floor.
I second the walking…
At least we can buy beer and wine in our grocery stores. Think about what life would be like in Utah, for example. I drove for 30 minutes out into a very deserted area near their county prison for some liquor one time. Oye.
Speaking of Mont’s Market, how much do you love that place? I think it’s wonderful.
