Coming to Seattle from Chicago, I found it odd that all apartment buildings here insist on having and displaying a name. My companion and I have found that apartment names on Capitol Hill can be grouped into a few main genres. For example:
Apartments named after heads of state (or at least sound like they could be):
1. Prince of Wales Apartments, 1818 20th Ave
2. The Victoria, 1832 14th Ave
3. Rajah Apartments, 611 Harvard Ave E
4. Windsor Arms, 532 Belmont E
5. Madison Place, 1813 19th Ave
6. Roosevelt Apartments, 1729 12th Ave
7. The Harrison, 322 10th Ave E
8. Washington Court, 503 13th Ave E
9. Sir Galahad Apartments, 903 Bellevue Pl E
10.Alexander Apartments, 1711 Bellevue Ave E
Apartments named after strippers (confirmed by primary research) :
1. Lorelei Apartments, 501 Summit Ave E
2. Cara Velle Apartments, 515 E Denny Wy
3. Chardonnay Apartments, 203 Bellevue Ave E
4. Chateau Margaux, 1052 E Thomas St
5. De Luxe, 1732 18th Ave E
6. Lauren Renee, 312 E Olive Pl
7. Casa Nova, 400 E Denny Wy
8. La Charme, 1722 Summit Ave
9. El Capitan, 1617 Yale Ave
10.Avante Apartmetns, 525 Bellevue Ave E
One word: Tiltsonian!
More words: The Summit at Madison Park (above Safeway @ 23rd/Madison) which is neither at a summit nor in Madison Park.
And let’s not forget the soon-to-be-missed:
Undre Arms!!!
it makes perfect sense to me. some buildings have building numbers that are tough to find, and you can’t say “that brick building” if your block is all brick buildings.
Madison’s a stripper’s name. I know her.
I used to live in the “Taft” apartments…though they were on 12th and Spring…one block from the “welcome to Capitol Hill” sign.
