911 Real-Time report indicates a fire in a single family residence at 700 15th Ave. E. Looks to be of relatively serious nature judging by the number of units dispatched and the plume of smoke that can be seen from a few blocks down the hill.
UPDATE: Thanks for more info, pics and video from neighbor Jed:
We live down the block and came home around 7pm Saturday to find 15th
between Aloha and Roy blocked off by at least three firetrucks and
probably half a dozen other emergency vehicles.By then the fire seemed to be out, but thinking of ole CHS, I snapped
a few photos as the firefighters were packing up their gear:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jed/From what were able to put together, it looks like the fire broke out
on the third floor. A woman in the apartment building next door said
she had called 911, which would seem to suggest no one was home in the
house itself. They’ve been doing work on the house (it’s got
scaffolding around it) — perhaps that played a role…

Updated Real time 911 says it is 706 15th Ave E. (so 2nd house from the corner at Roy).
Wasn’t able to get over there to see for myself.
Looked nasty – they were cleaning up around 9 and still had 2 trucks and a car there. The hoses were all set up still too. It was a house right next to the apartment building. No word on how it started but my money is on:
a) baseboard heaters
or
b) left stove / oven on
Oh – and lots of chunks of the house from where they hacked into it to get the hoses in were on the side lawn. That’s going to be a long and expensive fix.
(Is your renters / homeowners insurance up to date?)
11pm tv news reports said that the homeowner was working on his roof – “a home-improvement project” – and that’s where the fire started.
