19th Ave trades trees for sidewalk seating

  • One, with the removal of the southernmost tree, Kingfish has room for sidewalk wait-seating.
  • Two, while it’s sad to loose a shady tree, it’s nice to be able to see more of the beautiful building again.
  • Three, I took this picture from the point where a tree on the other side of the street used to be. Without removing that tree, this picture would not be possible.

I will say that it’s “weird” walking down that block now, but I think the addition of sidewalk seating is nice. If the building across the street from Kingfish ever gets turned into that apartment building they were planning hopefully they’ll even be some more nice outdoor places to sit.

Now if only the mob front/craft shop building could get torn down and turned into an apartment building with retail on the 1st floor. We need a small market.

I don’t know that I’d call that building beautiful- particularly on the south side it’s pretty unattractive. it’s certainly better than some awful townhomes or condos but in pretty poor condition – I lived there a ways back and the upstairs units are pretty run down. I miss the trees and wish they could find some replacements for them that woudln’t uproot the sidewalk!

Oh, well — I especially love the south side! Planning to write about it (again!) soon!

Would love to know about the history of the south side. It’s obviously not originally part of the building (the artistic 3-d stuff, I’m talking about)
