Cap Hill foodies, make room for Sitka and Spruce – UPDATE

After seeing the success of Rancho Bravo in our part of the city, the gastronomic explorers that power restaurant Sitka and Spruce must have taken note. Seattle Magazine says S and S is (probably!) moving from Eastlake to Capitol Hill. The glossy mag doesn’t know where, yet. Thoughts? (We’re also testing our new polling code. So belly up to the bar and vote already.)

UPDATE: Thanks for your votes. You were WRONG — unless you voted Other. Zeebleoop, on the other hand, was on the mark. Sitka (and more) destined for Melrose.

UPDATE:
Interesting “Other” from Zeebleoop in comments below. From a PI real estate post:

Two local developers plan to renovate two adjacent historic automotive buildings in the Pike-Pine neighborhood of Capitol Hill to be used for restaurant and retail.

Liz Dunn of Dunn & Hobbes and Scott Shapiro of Eagle Rock Ventures announced on Monday that they had acquired the two buildings, at 1515 and 1531 Melrose Ave., and plan to renovate them once the current tenant, Metro Auto Rebuild, leaves at the end of January.

Looks like a good possibility. The PDF available from the developers says space will be available for ‘tennant build-out’ in mid-May.

Larry Phillips letter in support of community use in transit development

An e-mail from King County councilmember Larry Phillips to the Sound Transit project director for the light rail University LInk:

Ron Endlich

Deputy Project Director

Sound Transit University Link

Dear Mr. Endlich,

Thank you for hosting the March 25th community meeting regarding transit-oriented development surrounding the upcoming Capitol Hill light rail station.  I appreciated the opportunity participate in the meeting; my Community Relations Aide Travis Commodore attended in order to hear community input regarding this important project.

I urge Sound Transit to continue to take a close look at the interesting ideas put forth at the meeting by community groups, businesses, and citizens, specifically:

·       Creating a permanent home for the Broadway Farmers Market;

·       adding more space for arts and culture in order to retain Capitol Hills vibrant arts community;

·       creating a flexible community gathering space for neighborhood clubs and organizations to gather; and

·       making the area more pedestrian-friendly with expanded sidewalks, smaller storefronts, and incentives to reduce parking.

Please keep me informed as you explore these exciting opportunities for transit-oriented development on Capitol Hill.  I look forward to continuing to work with Sound Transit and the Capitol Hill community to ensure the light rail station and surrounding buildings protect and enhance the character and livability of the neighborhood.

Sincerely,

Larry Phillips, Councilmember

Let the Molly Moon’s countdown begin

Spotted on Molly Moon’s Twitter status moments ago:

The Cap Hill Molly Moon’s will be in the Oddfellow’s building making Oddfellows breakfast + Rancho Bravo lunch + Molly Moon’s snack a gut busting temptation.

25 days and a few hours. i can do that. Molly has a blog, too, btw, to tide you over in meantime.

A giant coffee drinking mosquito on Pike

We found this whopper of a mosquito at Broadway and Pike this morning helping to spread not infectious disease but the word about NothingButNets.net. Meanwhile, down the road at Broadway QFC, the giant hulking Easter Bunny still lurks down the stairs to the home section. The mosquito, at least, has a mission more worthwhile than delivering jelly beans — there’s an information table and helpful reps from the United Nations-affiliated anti-malaria campaign in front of Cafe Vita.
