Capitol Hill streetcar update tomorrow

We’ll get an update on the city’s plans for a streetcar route on Capitol Hill tomorrow when the City Council’s transportation committee meets at 9:30AM in Council Chambers. On the agenda, a briefing from the Seattle Department of Transportation on “First Hill Streetcar: Term Sheet Agreement between the City of Seattle and Sound Transit.” Don’t let the briefing title alarm you. The First Hill label is as an outgrowth from the streetcar route as a replacement for a First Hill-area light rail station that was eliminated from Sound Transit’s plans. That history is also why Sound Transit is picking up the expected $140 million bill for the extension to the city system.

City planners remain mum on which — if any — route alternatives are going to be considered. In the meantime, we’ll re-use this map of alternatives we’ve heard about.
