More Cap Hill coming soon: Game store on E. Pine

Pretty geeky here at CHS. But this geeky? Game store gets ready to open on Cap Hill… with a survey.

My Tabletop brothers and sisters,

One of my closest friends is opening a brand new independent game store up on Capitol Hill (400 block of E. Pine St.) in Seattle. Gamma Ray Games is scheduled to open up its doors this June… and I cannot tell you all how excited I am for him.

This guy is a gamers’ gamer as well as a big comic and movie buff. He personally owns more out of print tabletop and RP games than anyone I know. He’s an excellent GM and game teacher. Though despite my sincerest efforts, I have yet to drag him to a PAX. I’ll get him this year.

I believe his goal is to make manifest what we all think of when we think of “game shop.” In other words, he wants it to be awesome. To help with this he is looking for people’s opinions here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?s…n1VgGL4A_3d_3d.

It’s a short survey and he didn’t ask me to send it to a massive community like you, but I honestly can’t think of better people to poll on this topic. Feel free to pass it along… the more the merrier.

Sincerely,

Drain

Survey is pretty much for true geeks only but does offer a coupon for completing. Last board game I played? Pente. You?

Anyone else ever hit up the Settlers of Catan? I’m pretty sure that was the most fun board game ever invented.

…you might also love Carcassonne. It’s fun because it can be played by two people. I am excited by this new game store, but in the meantime, the Red Balloon does a fine job of taking requests.

The Hill seems to be getting more and more food places …. nice to see another choice.
By the way … it is cool to cook and invite friends, and VERY cheap by comparison and you can drink a bottle good wine and do a joint or two and walk around Cal Anderson for kicks, this was our story Sat. and god, did we have fun for little money …

Sorry, upscale eatery, even on the Hill, you all charge too much for us kids.

Josh, go to 22 doors on a sunday night. I’d say that my friend might get mad at me for advertising it, but I don’t think that many people are looking to jump at the chance to play settlers in a bar until midnight on a work night.

Carcassonne is so fun! Looking forward to a new gaming store. Haven’t been in a really good one since I left Berkeley.

I love Settlers but Fjords is my favorite. They have it at Blue Highway in Queen Anne.

My boyfriend has been bemoaning the loss of the gaming store in the U District for … has it been a decade already? This should cheer him up quite a bit.

I vote atmosphere. Make it cool and welcoming instead of embarrassing. I think the chances of me and the lady friend actually coming into the store and hanging out on any sort of frequent basis will be increased dramatically if they figure out a way to avoid that dreaded locker room smell of having too many unwashed gamers in one place.

Hi all,

I’m the owner of Gamma Ray Games and I just wanted to thank you for taking our survey. The results were very helpful and are definitely impacting our plans.

To answer a few of the questions and comments that have come up here and in our survey responses:

Our store is located at 411 East Pine at the corner of Pine and Crawford between Blue Bottle and Area 51, across the street from the Capitol Club. We’ll be opening on Wednesday, June 3rd and are currently retrofitting, building and stocking as fast as we can to get ready.

Our store will indeed carry Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne , Fjords and most of the other games that Blue Highway carries, as well as several that they don’t, including (thanks to the requests of many of our survey participants) an expanded section of roleplaying games and a rotating stock of rare, used, and out of print games.

Our staff is friendly and knowledgeable and most of us are longtime Hill residents. Our space was originally designed by the guys from Square Room and has 20 foot ceilings and a bright, airy, mezzanine gaming space.

I’m leaving the windows uncovered throughout the construction, shelving and stocking process, so if you’re in the neighborhood this weekend, come on by and see how we’re doing. If we’re not too far behind or hanging precariously off a ladder, I might even be able to give you a quick tour.

Thanks again,

Eric
