Mystery medic response at base of Belmont hill: Did a man die on sidewalk?

Another weekend morning, another Hill story with only a 911 log entry and a Twitter report to tie it down. Still waiting to hear back on this one — and yesterday morning’s First Hill window fall — from Seattle Fire Department to confirm the details. In the meantime, here is what we found.

Last night, we saw this note on Twitter from Capitol Hill user samantham:

Holy shit! Dead guy on the sidewalk! Anyway, i think he’s dead, since the firemen are all standing around bored waiting for the ambulance.

Samantham also sent a message saying the incident happened on Lakeview Ave. She sent her messages around 10:10 PM.

Her report coincided with entries for a medic response in the 911 log to the intersection of Lakeview and Belmont around 9:50 PM. It’s an area that catches our attention more than the typical Hill intersection given that it’s at the base of a steep hill and a connective point between northern Capitol Hill and downtown.

We asked samantham if she noticed a bike or if there were any other signs of an accident. “Looked like he was just laying on the sidewalk, not moving, surrounded by standing firepeople with their medic boxes open,” samamntham wrote.

If you saw anything, let CHS know. In the meantime, trying to get more details from SFD.

A cyclist died at that intersection about a decade ago. Found dying early in the morning. Never established if it was hit-and-run or whether he collided with the bridge wall. On his way to visit girlfriend (colleague of mine). There was a memorial plaque on the bridge for a few years (and occasional candle drippings and beer cans).
