The East Precinct’s annual picnic is taking over 12th Ave this afternoon between Pine and Pike. If you didn’t hear about it until today, join the club — the event is typically held in July but was shuffled to June with short notice this year due to logistical issues with the North Precinct’s event that normally happens in June, organizers say.
Between 1p and 4p today, 12th Ave will be closed to traffic for the event which features free music, food and raffles. You can also tour the precinct HQ at the corner of 12th and Pine.
Love it!
Did they have any problem getting permits to close the street?
Wonder if they might get a few more community groups involved to make it more interesting?
Wonder why the horses look poorly groomed and tired? (farm boy raised with three or four family horses that make these cop shop animals look like nags)
Wonder if the city paid for the armored vehicle which is a true war machine?
No wonder, the bomb robot was the hit of the day. And, the free apples were crisp.
After this minimal effort, Gay Pride is sure worth waiting for … looking forward to the Parade. Wonder if there is a police contingent?
Armored vehicles are not tue war machines.
I also think it is more than interesting without more community groups. It is the East Precinct picnic. We should just leave it at that and not make things complicated.
The modern armored car – like the one displayed is a light tank.
There is no use what so ever in Settle, it is a war vehicle. Of course, under a rather paranoid set of thought, there will be war in the streets one day.
Remember, the invasion thru Canada from UN forces is due any year …over due say the right wingers …war minded are always thinking up potential uses for war machines. Kind of silly.
The armored vehicle is a toy, great display item and makes the cops feel like they are in the marines. They are not.
