Are you ready for a real Capitol Hill block party?

The big Capitol Hill Block Party music event at the end of July lacks in one key block party ingredient: potluck.

The several Capitol Hill block parties that will occur across the neighborhood in early August, on the other hand, will not lack in the potluck department.

National Night Out is August 4. The city waives street closure fees on that night to encourage neighbors to get out, meet each other and party in the street. Even if your street wants to hold its block party on another night, this is the right time of year to make it happen.

On Night Out, the city also makes personnel from the East Precinct and Pine street fire station No. 25 available to stop by the party for a visit. It’s not a block party until you have a firetruck pull up.

Here’s one block party being planned by the Capitol Hill Community Council and Cafe Metropolitain:

This year, Cafe Metropolitain and Unpaving Paradise are co-hosting one of the block parties of the “Seattle Night Out”: The Capitol Hill Chill ‘n’ Grill. There will be free food and entertainment for the whole family, booths with information about neighborhood non-profits, and plenty of time to chill out and meet your neighbors.

Want a party on your block? Deadline for all the goodies is July 31.

It seems the garage sale for the new park did not return much cash, so let’s make this a good money raiser for the park.

Is there a fiscal goal?

Also, it needs to be clear what the cost of food and drink is. These are hard times and many people do not come prepared to spend 15 bucks for curb food of low quality. Potluck means free? Or fixed price and you bring stuff?

Cost is a big issue for a ton of people right now, and needs to be clearly spelled out. (and if soda is free, pl. have some diet)

I love summer events, the nights are so so long …
