Capitol Hill’s summer of bucking the economic trends is finishing with another burst of activity as three new food and drink establishments are set to open within blocks and days of each other.
- Chow Bistro has a liquor license in hand and a new sign out front. No word on official opening day but both are, um, signs that the doors should open soon. UPDATE: Check that. This Craigslist post says September opening
- Tavern Law is also set to open, just down the street near 12th and Madison with the Ferrari dealership conveniently located across the street. Seadevi has them pinned down to a Friday or Saturday night opening, still to be determined. Drama.
- Pony is chomping at the bit and nearly ready to run. The Stranger said a Saturday night opening was tentatively planned. We have e-mail out to owner Mark Stoner to see what the latest is. but in quite another universe of late night culture,
As a youngster new to Capitol Hill, I’m not sure I get all the hype surrounding Pony. What is it? A gay bar? Another hipster joint? Fill me in!

Pony was a dump of a gay bar that snuck into the old cha cha space just under the buzzer before they tore it down. I think the only thing they did to open was drill some unusable glory holes, recruit some chubby go-go people (hardly boys) and buy the liquor. I hope they found someone to give them money this time around so they can open a better bar!
