McGinn on Capitol Hill: Pictures from Chamber’s holiday party

As we reported earlier, Team McGinn was on Capitol Hill today for a meeting with representatives from the neighborhood’s business and community groups. The mayor-elect didn’t accompany his staff and Cap Hill representatives on the tour of the area’s business districts but he did stop by Julia’s for the Chamber of Commerce’s holiday party.

The party benefited Capitol Hill social service Peace for the Streets by Kids from the Streets. McGinn said that Capitol Hill is a model for Seattle because it’s a place where people can achieve community goals without having to become activists. We think he was probably talking about CHS. Or hipsters. Or both.

Yes, there was a drag performance

“don’t have to be activist to achieve goals” (ref: C. Hill)

What the hell. You mean we don’t need the dozen groups that worked on him and his staff all day? Good, no more long and not at all fun meetings.

No more dog fights over Sound Transit or streetcar or keeping the liquor board and city attorney under control as they hassle gay bars. No more activism needed … sure glad.

I wish I could hear a transcript of those remarks … what does the new Mayor have to say about 100 city policies including zoning, taxes, liquor laws, police resources, spending on social problems, libraries, parks, sidewalks … many more topics, all of which involve the Hill.

To say nothing about STDs and the new plague of many bed bugs, and, helping the Farmers Market and bookstores survive. Rents too high, city problem? Homeless youth, meth and crack addiction overflow, civil rights and fair treatment for all minorities, the list is long. After all, This is Capitol Hill.

Mr. Mayor, yes, there is a clue bus. Get on, soon.
