A burglar who hit a Capitol Hill apartment last Tuesday in a brazen daytime crime came away with some dangerous booty. A man called police around 6 PM on January 12th to report his apartment had been burglarized and all of his belongings rifled through and searched, according to a Seattle Police Department report. The only thing missing? A loaded .357 Magnum revolver and 40 rounds of ammunition. The man said he had been storing the weapon in a drawer in his TV stand.
Police found a torn screen over a window of the man’s ground-floor apartment that the burglar apparently left partially open. They also found a partial shoe print on a ‘Seattle Weekly Magazine’ left on the floor below the window. No other evidence was found and the apartment building does not have video surveillance, according to the report.
Wikipedia calls the .357 Magnum the ‘gold standard of stopping power’ for revolvers.

What kind of moron leaves a loaded gun in an unlocked drawer while unattended? Seriously. Dumb. If you can afford a gun, then you can afford a means to secure it from others.
And it is the person living in the apartments fault that they were burglarized?
What is the point of having a gun you can’t access when you want to protect yourself.
Guns don’t kill. The person who has the gun would have gotten one somewhere else if they really wanted one.
The original commenter is correct. Never leave a gun unsecured WHILE UNATTENDED. If you’re going to leave your home and leave your guns behind, don’t leave your guns unsecured.
I will leave my belongings where I want to in my own home, even if it’s a gun. If a lowlife thief breaks in, they have access to even a locked gun cabinet silly. You can leave your guns where you want to in your house as well, and I won’t tell you what to do with them. Thanks.
I’m not telling anyone what to do, but I believe it is unsafe and irresponsible to leave guns unsecured. Having someone break into your house and steal your hair dryer is not that big a deal. Having someone break into your house and steal your gun IS a big deal. That becomes yet another gun on the streets in the hands of criminals.
A lowlife thief might be able to get into a locked gun cabinet, or they might not if you’re willing to spend a little money. No matter what it is certainly going to be more difficult and time-consuming than just opening a drawer. The longer it takes them the more likely they are to get caught.
