Blotter: Drug deal gone bad, iPhone bus robbery, $10,000 antique heist

When we talk about SeattleCrime.com as a CHS news partner, we’re not messing around. The same magic technology powers our sites and we are part of the same advertising network. Oh, and stay tuned for the SeattleCrime iPhone app coming soon! They’re useful news partners to have. Below is a selection of recent SeattleCrime blotter items and some SPD reports we dug up on our own.

From SeattleCrime:

  • SC has some interesting background on this arrest in what appears to be a drug deal gone bad near Bellevue and Olive Street on Tuesday, January 26. SC says they’re looking into a flurry of police anti-drug work that may be connected to the arrest.
  • Also from SeattleCrime, another Capitol Hill iPhone robbery, this one aboard a Metro bus heading up Broadway. Robber came up behind the man as the bus waited at a stop, grabbed the phone and made a dash for Cal Anderson.

  • A famous fixie was stolen near Roy and Harvard on late on January 25th.
  •  One last SeattleCrime item — burglary at Neighbours early on a Wednesday morning in late January:

Seattle police are investigating a break-in at the Neighbours nightclub on Capitol Hill. The club’s security cameras recorded footage of a black male in his forties forcing open the club’s door the morning of January 23rd. The man stole 5 bottles of liquor, and tried—and failed—to open a cash register. The man also stole change out of video games in the bar. Police have a clear photo of the man’s face, but officers weren’t immediately able to identify him.

And some of the less sensational but still important to Capitol Hill items we found in the latest East Precinct reports:

  • B&W antiques on East Pike suffered a major burglary that they say involved items worth more than $10,000. According to the report, a bronze statue, jewelry and small figurines were stolen from the shop in the break-in that happened sometime before noon on January 25.
  • In another expensive break-in, an unknown business in the 500 block of 15th Ave E suffered a burglary on January 21st that left its antique glass door shattered and its $5,000 cash registered busted open. The report says the business’s owner had closed down and emptied the cash from the register around 3 AM and the broken door was noticed around 6 AM.
  • The mood was so tense heading into a Belmont Ave building’s homeowners association meeting that the group decided to hire a security guard. That moved turned out to be part of a self-fulfilling prophecy as the resident the group was concerned about became enraged at the presence of the guard, according to the SPD report on the incident. Witnesses told police the resident went into a tirade and eventually assaulted another resident by grabbing him by the throat. The man was able to free himself and the angry resident left the scene. The police officer who responded was not able to contact the angry resident in his unit, the report states.
  • On January 25th, a Group Health employee reported that her wallet had been stolen. The crime in itself was not remarkable — but the woman’s quick thinking is. According to the SPD report, she rushed to the gas station where her bank said somebody had tried to use her stolen credit card not long after the theft. She didn’t find the thief — but she did find much of her wallet’s contents in the trash at the station.
  • Another Capitol Hill storage theft. On January 23rd, a man reported that bikes and other property worth more than $3,000 were stolen from his storage unit. The unit’s padlock had been cut off, according to the report on the incident.
  • A store in the 1400 block of E. John reported that an unknown man entered the business around 4:30 PM on January 18th and made off with a Symbol Tech inventory scanner worth about $3,000. According to the SPD report, there has been a ‘series of these types of thefts in the area.’

Does anyone want to become a vigilante with me? I need help cleaning up these streets! No special powers needed, just a desire to fight crime. I’m open to costume ideas…
