Here are some of the reports we found in our latest plunge into the records of Seattle’s East Precinct including another Hill street robbery.
- A man was struck in the head and had his wallet stolen as he was about to help a man out who had asked him for money for food, early last Saturday morning in the alley behind Neighbours. Here’s how the SPD report describes the robbery:
Officers conducted an area search for the two suspects in the attack but came up empty.
- A complicated tale of love, betrayal and burglary? A man reported to police that someone had likely used a spare set of keys to enter his Bellevue Ave apartment and ransack the place of two laptops and various electronics worth around $2,000 while he was away skiing for the day. On February 13, the man said he left a female friend at his apartment when he left to hit the slopes. When he arrived back home that night, he found that the woman wasn’t there and his apartment had been burgled. According to the police report, the woman told him that she met a man at breakfast and returned to the apartment with the new guy. According to the woman, the guy she met at breakfast took off at some point in the day after which she also left the apartment. The victim said the woman believed the mystery man removed a set of keys and returned to the apartment to steal the items after she left. He told police he was unable to contact the woman as the thief had also stolen his cell phone.
- Here is the recently released SPD report on the alleged gay bashing involving a baseball bat assault in a dispute at Harvard and Pike earlier this month. We will follow up with the prosecutor’s officer regarding any charges related to this incident.
- This last one is less interesting than it is informative of yet another way you can get ripped off in the world, so watch yourself. A man reported to police on February 17 that about $9,000 worth of gear had been stolen from the storage unit in the basement of his E. Pine apartment building. We’ve seen quite a few of these lately. Tip: If you have expensive stuff, don’t trust an un-monitored chain link cage to protect it. Or just accept that somebody else might put those golf clubs and skis to use for you.
This is the second time I’ve seen names redacted inaccurately in a police report on this site. This one has the name visible in one spot.
Thanks for the note. To clarify how we receive these reports, names are redacted by SPD, not CHS. We do try to redact when a name is missed by SPD. In this case, the report had one instance of a victim’s last name un-redacted. I hope people find sharing reports in the format we receive them directly from SPD valuable. I’m not a big fan of the re-writes you see done my most traditional media outlets — soon, I’d expect some portion of these reports to be available online from SPD. But we also aren’t happy about the inconsistent redaction. Apologies for the mistake.
reading these more detailed reports makes me feel a lot better about crime on the hill than just reading “robbery, 9K, E. Pine” or “assault, baseball bat, Harvard @ Pike.” muggings have always gone on around here of course… but they also can be avoided, like the alley of Neighbours at 3 am.
