Two Capitol Hill businesses less-than-a-1-mile stroll from each other suffered break-ins two Fridays ago under nearly identical circumstances. We received tips — here and here — on both incidents the day they occurred and shared them on Twitter but the police reports weren’t available until now.
Early on the morning of Friday, February 5th, between 3 and 6 AM, somebody threw a brick through the glass front door of 22 Doors on
. According to the SPD report on the incident, the alarm sounded but there was no response from the security company. The thief entered 22 Doors and went to work.Meanwhile, around 5:45 AM, a few blocks away on , another glass door was busted with a brick, according to another SPD report. The alarms sounded as a desk was rifled through. This time, the brick burglar fled without stealing anything more than Mangetout Catering’s time and money to get the door fixed — and their sense of well being, perhaps.
Back on 15th, 22 Doors wasn’t so lucky. Despite the alarm, the thief ripped the entire cash box from the computer system it was attached to, according to the SPD report. Inside the box was at least $300 cash.
Inside 22 Doors, police found a ‘halloween skull mask‘ the suspect left behind but no other evidence.
According to the report, 22 Doors also suffered a similar attempted burglary in January that also started with a busted glass door. The person the officer talked to also said another 15th Ave business had recently been broken into but that the owner did not report the crime to police.
22 Doors changed ownership in late 2009. According to Washington State corporation records, 22 Doors Inc. is now owned by Josephine and Ricky Tong.
We recently reported on a similar smash and grab burglary at Third Man Video on E. Pine.
