Fire response at apartment building shuts down Bellevue – UPDATE

A large emergency response to an apartment building at 1641 Bellevue Ave shut down traffic on the street for a short time this afternoon. No word yet on what caused the callout to the Bellevue Olive Apartments but the situation was taken care of quickly. We’ll update as soon as we know more from SFD.

UPDATE 2:29 PM:
According to SFD, the callout was in response to a smoky ‘food on the stove’ fire. Move along. Nothing to see here.

I live in the apartment above the unit that had the fire in it. Sounds like it was a fire in/around the kitchen. The tenants were not home. I was extremely impressed with the fire department’s response. They were there by the time I got my toddlers down four flights of stairs. And I love Capitol Hill…a guy and his wife saw the fire from their apt and he brought crackers and a stuffed animal for any kids who would have wait (however long) outside. My kids sat happily on their blanket on the curb eating a snack.
