When we broke the news that the Jimi Hendrix statue would be staying on Capitol Hill, we also learned he would have iconic company in the form of the father of rock ‘n’ roll, Chuck Berry. Turns out, Hendrix and Berry will be joined by at least a third.
We saw Elvis being wheeled from his delivery drop point at the Elliott Bay Book Co. construction site on 10th over to his new home at the Broadway Building by way of Nagle Place. Hard to argue too much with the selection of this rock triumvirate — Elvis, was a hero to most… but we’re hoping three more get added to the scene.
I kind of enjoyed how Jimi actually had something to do with Seattle.
I say we replace Elvis with Bruce Lee. Yeah, he wasn’t a musician (but, you know, he lived here and went to school here and got married here and is buried here), but why do the statues have to be specifically music oriented?
Have you guys seen Valley’s of Neptune from the new Jimi Hendrix record. This is making me think it’s a must have – the video is just as awesome as the song. enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjxH_a5U7wA
Word. I’d rather see Cobain and Mix-a-Lot.
Yeah, I know Cobain would turn in his grave, but I really think he needs some kind of memorial here in Seattle!
I don’t know where all this statuary is coming from but if it’s all rock icons it might be nice to add some female energy to the mix. there’s an interesting article somewhere… about the amount of male vs. female statues in the world. Suprise, suprise, the world is a little low on the laadies.
The big question: Where is this stuff coming from and why?
Ann and Nancy Wilson?
the statues were all part of the AEI? music company at Pine and Broadway years ago (and not that many years, either…).
They’ve clearly brought them out of storage. They used to be on the streets before, but you had to be watching for them.
