Blotter: Team Canada thief, Cal Anderson chess board as weapon, Conservatory break-in

Emptying out the queue of early March reports from the East Precinct’s crime beat, here’s a selection from the streets — and parks — of Capitol Hill. All items are compiled from SPD media reports.

  • Domestic dispute turns violent: We followed up on a large medical 911 callout over the weekend in the 1200 block of Seneca on the First Hill side of things. The early Sunday morning response was a domestic violence situation. According to the SPD, neighbors heard a man and woman fighting. When officers arrived, they found the man had a minor knife wound. The woman was arrested and booked for the assault.
  • More details on Friday’s burglary: Some additional info on the man arrested at the scene of a 19th Ave E burglary on Friday. SPD tells us that in addition to a sack of loot from other homes they found at the scene, the guy they hauled in had outstanding warrants for Snohomish County. We’ll let you know how the court end of things proceeds for the alleged burglar.
  • That explains it: Remember this stabbing arrest earlier this month involving a man and woman fleeing to QFC where cops arrested the man for the assault? SPD report on the incident is out and notes a possible motive: The woman, the report states, had sex with the man who was stabbed.
  • Not very Olympic: In an early March incident, a woman reported that the Team Canada Olympics jersey she ordered was stolen from the lobby of her Harvard Ave apartment building. She told police she found the mailing package for the $105 jersey behind the apartment stairwell.
  • Checkmate: On Monday of last week in the early evening in Cal Anderson park, a man reported he was assaulted by another man who hit him with a chess board that was being used in a game of dominoes. Police were looking for a man they say has been violent toward officers in the past and who had previously been arrested for trespass in the park.
  • Bike thief: Sometime in the early hours of March 12, a burglar entered an E. John apartment parking garage and made off with residents’ bikes and a few valuables from a storage locker. In all, $1,200 in goods were reported stolen. The thief used an unknown cutting device to cut through the bike lock and gain access to the storage unit.
  • Burglar hits Volunteer Park Conservatory: The West Cottage of the Volunteer Park Conservatory was busted into early this month as a thief used a device to pry a door open and steal a CD player from the office building. Nothing else was missing, according to parks employees and volunteers who had access to the building.
