Head of Hill Chamber of Commerce resigns

The executive director of the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce and head of the Broadway Business Improvement Association has resigned. In a letter sent to CHS this morning, Jack Hilovsky announced his decision to leave the post he has held for three years.

Hilovsky lead the Chamber as it transitioned to a self-supporting agency following the end of a city grant that had boosted the organization until last summer. We reported on the Chamber’s effort to revitalize itself here as it increased efforts to recruit members and improve its finances. As part of his effort to boost the Chamber’s finances, Hilovsky lead the creation of an annual benefit dinner. The first was held last fall at Broadway’s Poppy restaurant. As of the end of 2009, the Chamber said it had 172 members.

In December, the Chamber’s unveiling of a new logo to promote Capitol Hill — seen above — was roundly criticized.

Other recent initiatives include the utilization of Sound Transit’s light rail construction business mitigation resources to host a series of small business seminars and to create a new Chamber web site, yourcapitolhill.com.

On the street – word is that funding may be a problem for the Chamber as they run out of several grants they have had the past few years … they say follow the money.

Ideas?

Just seeing that logo makes me queasy – what a horrible design and color.
