Home invasion robbery reported on Summit Ave – UPDATE

A busy night in the East Precinct with a report of a home invasion robbery at a residence inside the Summit Place apartments in the 1600 block of Summit Ave. Around 1:26 AM, a man called 911 reporting that two men had kicked in his door, strangled him and stolen a safe before fleeing, according to a police radio transmission. The man described his attackers as two black males. A witness saw two men running northbound on Bellevue Ave but could not provide a description.

The man told police he did not know his attackers. A medic was dispatched to treat the man’s injuries. There were no details on what was inside the safe. We’ll confirm details of the situation with SPD in the morning.

CHS reported previously on a home invasion robbery in late March at a residence on Bellevue Ave E. That incident involved two men entering a home armed with a handgun.

UPDATE: SPD says the victim told officers the robbers may be associated with his dope dealer:

On 5/7/10, at approximately 1:20 a.m., officers responded to a  reported home invasion robbery in the 1600 block of Summit Ave.  The tenant reported that two males pushed their way into his unit, assaulted him, and took his safe.

He explained that the suspects had buzzed the intercom, and he had allowed them into the building because he thought some friends had stopped by unannounced.

When he opened the door to his unit, the suspects pushed their way in.  One of the men grabbed him in a choke hold, and he passed out.  When he regained consciousness, his safe was gone.  He commented that it appeared that the men knew exactly what they were loooking for and where to find it.

The victim was only able to describe the suspects as 2 black males.  He suspected that they might be involved with a subject he had been buying marijuana from.

The victim was examined by Seattle Fire Department personnel at the scene, but he was not transported.  The responding officers did not  find the suspects in the area.
